The Brazoria County Expressway project consists of the development of a 4-lane (2+2) toll road within the existing median of SH 288. These lanes, as planned, will ultimately extend from CR 60 in Brazoria County to just south of US 59 within Harris County. The limits of work for this project are within Brazoria County from CR 58 to the Brazoria/Harris County Line at Clear Creek. The project includes three major components for a total cost of $97,169,719.81:
- Reconstruct the FM 518 intersection at SH 288. Includes the reconstruction of the main lane bridges on SH 288 over FM 518, the widening of FM 518 from Business Center Drive to Smith Ranch Road, and the widening of the access ramps leading to and from the main lanes of SH 288 to FM 518. Approximate Cost: ~ $15 M (TxDOT funded).
- Provide corridor aesthetic enhancements. Includes soft-and hardscapes within the City of Pearland. This improvement is approximately $15 M of the $97 M. Approximate Cost: ~ $2 M (City of Pearland funded).
- Construct the Brazoria County Expressway. Includes construction of more than 5 miles of 4 lanes designed for highway loading with two elevated structures to get traffic onto the toll lanes; north of FM 518 and at Hughes Ranch Road/Discovery Bay. It also includes overpass bridges at McHard Road, FM 518 and CR 59 as well as bridges at Mustang Creek, a drainage ditch and a water canal. Approximate Cost: ~ $80 M.
Road Closures
Southbound SH -288 Main Lanes will be closing between McHard Road and FM 518 to restripe the lanes. Two right lanes and ramp will close, after completing those lanes, 1 left lane will close to finish work. Work will begin October 13, 2017 at 9 PM and will be completed on October 16, 2017 at 5 AM.
