Severe Weather Pool Procedures

There is no safe place outside when thunderstorms are in the area. If you hear thunder, you are likely within striking distance of the storm.

Just remember, When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors. Too many people wait far too long to get to a safe place when thunderstorms approach. Unfortunately, these delayed actions lead to many of the lightning deaths and injuries in the United States.

Lightning strikes the United States about 25 million times a year. Although most lightning occurs in the summer, people can be struck at any time of year. Lightning kills an average of 47 people in the United States each year, and hundreds more are severely injured.

Shadow Creek Ranch has acquired portable lightning/storm detection equipment recommended by Aquatico Pool Management and the National Weather Service for the purpose of providing advanced warning when dangerous weather is approaching. Procedures are implemented when severe weather could pose a threat to our residents and staff during recreational pool activities. In the event of severe weather, trained Aquatico personnel will utilize the lightning detector to closely monitor the storm’s distance. Lifeguard staff will be on alert of the approaching storm, at 3- 8 miles (or less) lifeguards will notify residents TO IMMEDIATELY GET OUT OF THE WATER AND SUSPEND ALL ACTIVITIES FOR A 30-MINUTES DELAY.

Residents arriving at the pool will NOT be allowed to enter. Residents and lifeguard staff should seek cover away from the pool, in a nearby building or in their vehicles.

The pool management company maintains final discretion in enforcement of pool rules and regulations. For the safety of our residents, they are called on to make important decisions that you may not agree with. Please cooperate and direct constructive comments to the Pool Manager or FirstService Residential.
